Private land hunts are for the free-range hunter who see's the value and benefits in hunting private property. The benefits being, high animal numbers, high trophy quality, game management, exclusive access and comforatble accommodation. We have access to five outstanding private land properties with wild free-ranging animals amongst stunning mountain and lakeside sorrounds.
Red deer properties for hunting in Otago and the Rakia river for hunting the two most famous New Zealand deer herds, the Otago herd and the Rakia herd. You will not find anywhere better for free-range red deer hunting especially in terms of trophy quality and animal numbers. We also have access to exceptional tahr and fallow properties, chamois being the only animal where you will not find large numbers on private land.
On a 4-5 day private land hunt for a red deer, fallow deer or tahr you will see more trophy animals than the average kiwi hunter on public land see's in lifetime.

All properties have vehicle access to the accommodation. The properties themselves have vehicle tracks (some more than others) so we can drive to certain spots and glass for animals. Sometimes we can use the 4x4 to climb right to the top of the mounatin and hunt down on animals. Polaris vehicles or 4x4 motorbikes may also be used. |

Depending which species and which property we're hunting the standard of accommodation varies from basic but comfortable quarters with hot showers to full lodge facilities. Home cooked meals with comfortable sitting and dining areas. During the hunt we stay at the property so it is possible to hear red stags roaring in the night or take a 15 min drive up a track and be glassing bull tahr. |

Hunting on private property is excellent. It is a very special sight to see 60 bull tahr in a mob, we can show you this at certain times of the year at our tahr property. We can also show you 5-10 mature trophy red stags and 80-150 wild red deer on an idyllic Otago property which is only a stones throw from the liberation point of the world famous Otago red deer herd. Animal numbers and trophy quality on all private land properties we hunt is as good as New Zealand can offer.

Because we're hunting mountain dwelling animals the terrain of our private land properties is reasonably steep. The country is certainly not as harsh as wilderness hunting and with vehicle tracks we can take some of the dead walking out of the hunt. Generally we have solid footing with tussock filled rolling country prevailing. |

Reasonable to good fitness is best. We try to spot the animal we want to hunt before commencing a stalk, so usually the first 1-2 days of a private land hunt is spent glassing from the bottom, looking over different animals. The real work begins once we've worked out the habits and feeding area of the animal we want.

Genuine free-range hunting for quality animals from comfortable accommodation. When it comes to the deer species the best trophies are found on private land. Helicopter venison recovery takes all animals, young or old, male or female on public land making guided trophy hunting for deer species almost impossible. For the horned species tahr and chamois, for tahr in particular you will see numbers of unpressured animals that you really do have to see to believe. |
