A private land Tahr hunt offers the full package in terms of comfortable accommodation and high numbers of trophy Tahr. These hunts are run on the eastern side of the Southern Alps, which is slightly easier country than the western side, access is by 4X4 vehicle. Accommodation consists of three different back-country huts which are roomy (sleep 8 people) have a roaring hot fire place, mattresses and the main base hut has a hot shower.

Tahr can be spotted from the valley floor and once a trophy bull is located a stalk up the mountain can be made. A reasonable level of fitness is required for a private land hunt, as the hunter needs to climb up to the higher reaches of the mountain where the Tahr live. Conditions on this side of the Alps are usually pleasant with an annual rainfall of 60 inches (1500mm).

We have excellent success rates in this area.
